    Bringing Balance back to Homeschooling

The holidays are now a distant memory. Sadly! We’re heading towards the end of week 2 of term 3, and I can hardly believe that we are now in term 3, this year is flying by far too quickly. We had created a list of things we wanted to do over the holidays but sickness took us down. Instead, we spent the majority of the holidays at home. We did fit in a couple of movies at the Maroochy Cinema’s for the kids right at the beginning of the holidays before we became unwell. I endured the Minions movie and enjoyed ‘Inside Out’…The kids thoroughly enjoyed both the movies, and…

    The Paper Chain Weightloss plan

It seems that I am my own worst enemy! I recently had an ‘Oprah Ah ha’  light bulb moment thanks to Gretchen Rubin.  I have been reading Gretchen Rubin’s new book ‘Better than Before’, and I have just realised my problem – I am an ‘obliger’. An ‘obliger’ is somebody who puts other peoples needs before their own and mums have a tendency to put their family’s needs before making themselves a priority, but I have come to realise the importance of making sure I consider my health a priority. I feel like I have been reading and thinking about health for quite some time now.  In fact, I made a promise to…

    Waterproof Splashsuits for Kids

This morning dark clouds covered our skyline.  It looked like quite the miserable rainy day.   Normally the idea of a wet day makes me feel a little glum and out of sorts.  I dislike going out in the rain because our funny four year old little boy Jaden, loves to play outside, and its impossible for him to stay dry.  Rain means puddles, puddles mean splashing, and splashing means soaking wet child – Jaden.  Jaden loves the wet weather, and loves playing outside, and in the puddles at every opportunity. Keeping Jaden dry on a wet day is next to impossible – raincoats and umbrellas often fail us!   I…

    Glamping Fun!

Last weekend we ‘Glamped’ at the Broadwater Tourist Park on the Gold Coast.  We were going to camp, but we had a number of cold nights here, and I chickened out of camping in a tent because I really didn’t feel that we were set up to camp in the cold.   I’m still keen to camp but now that I have experienced the cabin option, I’m in love with glamping. Our cabin number was 312. It was the first cabin along the beach front and we had the best view of the little  beach, and our view to Sea World was lovely.  Our weekend away was literally the most…

    A Little about Me.

Oops, time got away from me this month!   Its been quite a busy time here in our household. A while back I came across a simple article by Kelly Exeter who writes a blog called, ‘A Life Less Frantic’.  Kelly’s article is called ‘The One Thing…’.  I decided to answer the questions for myself.  If your interested in doing the same please feel free.  🙂 The one thing … The one thing I should do less often is:  I am learning to live in the present and not always dream about the greener grass on the other side of the fence. We are blessed right now – we have…

    The Homeschooling Motherhood Gig

I love being a mum!  I loved bringing home each new baby, and I have loved the process of helping grow each one of our kids, but if I am going to be honest with you, I just have to say it how it is. Motherhood is a really hard gig some days! Don’t be concerned, I am just a little tired and I have a cold, so I’m probably being a little over dramatic, but if you ask any mother – some days will always be harder than others, because that’s life! We have just completed our very first term of homeschooling, and I am elated with how well the…

That Sugar Film – a Kid Friendly Doco-movie

This week our family went to see, ‘That Sugar Film‘, and I have to tell you that it’s a doco-movie you must see. In fact, it’s a doco-movie you must see with your kids – and your partner!  Its absolutely 100% family friendly. Its informative and it will help curb your children’s sugar addictions! We decided to take the kids to see ‘That Sugar Film‘, because one of the previews for the movie introduced viewers to 17 year old Larry, the boy who’s teeth were rotten from drinking Mountain Dew.  We don’t drink Mountain dew in our house, but I wanted the kids to associate soft drinks with Larry’s teeth.   Soft drinks are so…

    Did you bring your game?

I’m not sure when it started, but at some point in the last six weeks,  I started asking our girls each day if they are bringing their game to the table today! I mentioned it to my friend recently when she asked me how I get my kids motivated for school each day.    All I know is that whenever I ask this question, the kids work well, and when I don’t ask the question – we seem to have an average work day.    We’ve started calling it the ‘golden question’, because we really do feel that we have a good work day when I ask them if they are bringing their…
