    Term 3 and Homeschooling Gameplans

Term three has officially started! We are about to start week two of the term, and I’m so not ready for Monday morning! Tafe also started back last week, so I again live in the car. Bep’s hours at work have officially gone up, which is a good thing, but it also means that we (hubby and I) have another ungodly hour to get up to each week with regard to dropping her off at work. The holidays went far too quickly for my liking. I had numerous things I wanted to accomplish, and if I am going to be honest I only tackled a few of those things on…

    Art is Fun

Today we started the day with our art course.   It is an art course I bought via Udemy.com a couple of weeks ago in the Udemy sales.  I hear there are more sales on the site at the moment.  It takes the learner through a step by step process.   It really is an incredible course. My kids are far too hard and critical of themselves.   I am not sure how many times I reminded them that the guy doing the course has been an artist for many years, this is the first time they (my kids) are doing this course.  You can’t expect to be Picasso on…

An Update about our Homeschooling Adventure

Homeschooling.   Some days I love it.  Some days I don’t.    I’m only human! Its quite a funny mix bag of responses that I get when people ask why my kids aren’t in school.   Some people are really encouraging and say things such as ‘I really admire mums who can homeschool – I’d love to do it but my kids are happy in school’ or ‘I don’t think I could do it, but good for you’.   Some back peddle out of the conversation quickly as though I am going to preach at them as to all the benefits of homeschooling – which I don’t, but I will answer peoples questions!  Some close down the…

    Heading Back to High School

High school can be really hard at times. I should know, this is my second and third time around! Our eldest girls are in year eight and year seven, and I’ll be the first to admit that I really did not enjoy high school the first time around. I am hoping that the fourth (Chanel) and fifth (Jaden) time around will be a little easier! Fingers crossed. This term Amy had to read ‘The Hiding Place” by Corrie Ten Boom, for English. One of her assessment pieces required her to pull it apart, and put it back together in the form of an analytical essay. ‘We’ finished her analytical essay…

    Bringing Balance back to Homeschooling

The holidays are now a distant memory. Sadly! We’re heading towards the end of week 2 of term 3, and I can hardly believe that we are now in term 3, this year is flying by far too quickly. We had created a list of things we wanted to do over the holidays but sickness took us down. Instead, we spent the majority of the holidays at home. We did fit in a couple of movies at the Maroochy Cinema’s for the kids right at the beginning of the holidays before we became unwell. I endured the Minions movie and enjoyed ‘Inside Out’…The kids thoroughly enjoyed both the movies, and…

    The Homeschooling Motherhood Gig

I love being a mum!  I loved bringing home each new baby, and I have loved the process of helping grow each one of our kids, but if I am going to be honest with you, I just have to say it how it is. Motherhood is a really hard gig some days! Don’t be concerned, I am just a little tired and I have a cold, so I’m probably being a little over dramatic, but if you ask any mother – some days will always be harder than others, because that’s life! We have just completed our very first term of homeschooling, and I am elated with how well the…

    Did you bring your game?

I’m not sure when it started, but at some point in the last six weeks,  I started asking our girls each day if they are bringing their game to the table today! I mentioned it to my friend recently when she asked me how I get my kids motivated for school each day.    All I know is that whenever I ask this question, the kids work well, and when I don’t ask the question – we seem to have an average work day.    We’ve started calling it the ‘golden question’, because we really do feel that we have a good work day when I ask them if they are bringing their…

    New Year. New School 2015

This year is shaping up to be a good one for our family…and its quite exciting!! We decided at the end of 2014 that we would be making a massive change in 2015.   There are numerous reasons for this decision, but our Bethy is the main reason for making this change. Bethy struggles academically, and has done so since she started school.  She’s always been young for her age, and this year she’s in year six (the last year of primary school).  School life has been challenging for Bethy, and we have had many friendship issues along the way.   On many occasions, over the years, Bethy would climb into the car at…
