A Life Animated
This week its the ‘Caloundra Film Festival’. The beauty of homeschooling means we can take advantage of the local events and work them into our curriculum. Obviously not everything fits in, but sometimes events can work in to the mix beautifully. This week is ‘the Caloundra Film Festival’, and so this morning I took the girls to the local cinema to see ‘Life Animated’. ‘Life Animated’ is a story about a young man called Owen who was diagnosed at three with regressive autism. He developed a strong affinity and passion for animated disney films, and once his parents realised – when Owen was around seven, they used the animated…

Day 2 September Photo Challenge
Today we christened the brand new ‘Muffin Break’ at our local shopping centre. It was a great opportunity to have a mini date with Chanel. She’s a very smart chook with a beautiful smile. I need to have more time with each of the kids individually, they really open up and share their hearts when you have that one on one time. Today Chanel spoke about her dream of owning a hairdressing Salon called ‘Chanel’s hair and Beauty’, and she’s going to get some coffee cups that have her name on them to offer her clients when they come to her salon. I don’t…

September – The Love Month
September is my favourite month of the year! Welcome to September – the month of sunshine and happiness! Our moderate-mostly-warm-Winter has gone, and Spring has come around again. The days are becoming longer, the birds are chirping, and the flowers are starting to burst and bloom with colour. There is a sense of excitement in the air, and I know its all because Spring has arrived. I think the best way to describe this feeling I have is that I feel my soul is rejoicing – Spring has arrived! Its a great time of year for so many reasons. 1. Warmer Weather. Spring means the weather is warming up and jumpers can be put…

The Intentional Mother
If you’re a mother, you will have times when you feel intense overwhelm. Sometimes you will experience this overwhelm on a daily basis. We desire to be ‘Warrior women’, but instead some of us feel like ‘worriers’. We quickly learn that there is so much more to being a mum than just surviving pregnancy and giving birth. It fact, we are required to raise our children to be leaders in a world where we aren’t allowed to discipline. None of us want our children to turn out this way – do we? It is for this reason, we choose to discipline our kids. It is also for this reason we lie…

Become a Tourist in your own City!
The school holidays are here and I don’t think I have to remind you all that I am ‘one of those mums‘. I am a mother who loves the school holidays. I count the days down to the holidays and I put off thinking about going back to school till I absolutely have too. Not because I dislike homeschooling, I just want to enjoy every moment of the holidays we can finding the balance between relaxing and adventuring together. Sure we could jump in the car and head up to Aussie World or the Australia Zoo, and there is nothing wrong with those options, but the cost of entry for a…

Simplifying Life
There is a lot of talk in my group of friends about how busy our lives are. We all have kids, a couple of mums work full time, some work part time, some are stay at home parents, some are single mums and a few of us are married, and none of us feel as though we have enough time in the day to do anything for ourselves. We feel rushed and reactive rather than relaxed and responsive, and I think we are the ones who will pay for the lifestyle we live now, long term. We have to learn how to slow down and enjoy the journey.…
