New Day – New Look
Welcome back! Today, my office is Mooloolaba. Gloria Jeans to be precise on the Mooloolaba strip. The girls are at school and Jaden is at kindy. I am loving this time to myself. Today I am officially launching my new look for MischieviousMum.com! I have been wanting to change the look for some time, and over the last week I have done it. Thats right – I have done it! I worked out how to change my blog from the free wordpress.com platform to our self hosting site. I have surprised and shocked myself in what I have been able to work out and learn. …

Just a House wife, Are We?
I know that I am not the only woman who feels guilty if the house is messy. I don’t feel I can sit and write, or plan my next blog post or adventure, if my home is not how I like it. I realise that some mums can work and play around a messy home but I am just not one of these mums. This week, I watched ‘The Biggest Loser’. I had said that I wasn’t going to watch the show at all this year, but now that the contestants have stopped whinging and whining about exercise, accepted the trainers are there to help them and push…

The Cliffhangers in Life
Three years ago we got a call. A call that we were far from ready to receive, but the phone rang anyway and our lives were about to change forever. The call was to tell us that dad had collapsed and that it didn’t look good. We hurriedly threw what we thought to be necessities in a bag and drove down to Stanthorpe. It is usually a very long drive at the best of times, but that day the drive seemed much longer. As we reached Warrick the phone rang again. This time it was my brother letting me know that dad had passed. I had missed the opportunity…

Our Children are like Butterflies
The other night I attended an information night at our school for the year five class who have started a program to help build resilience in our children. The program is called ‘Friends for Life’. Personally I believe that this program should be adapted to start in the early primary years, as it is a program that helps kids work through anxiety, frustration, fear, feelings of depression and also how to be a friend. Well, ‘how to be a friend’ is more of a side benefit to knowing how to deal with these other issues. I am a true believer in that it takes a number of sources to…

The 30 Day Challenge!
Sometimes you need to do something different in your life to get a new perspective. Sometimes I am one of those people who wants change but I don’t know what to do about it. To cut a really long story short, I found this Ted Video. I love this philosophy. How do you know you don’t like something if you have never tried it? The 30 day challenge is all about trying new things – anybody can commit to something different in your life for 30 days. Change doesn’t have to mean changing everything about your life in one month, for lasting change it is better…

Are you Happy?
Last night a friend of mine and I attended the screening for the Happy Movie. A documentary type movie about what actually makes people happy. It was quite an amazing and interesting journey from the psychology and physiology of happiness, to the environment in which we live, the people around us, our personal and professional successes, to the culture that we live in. There are so many components to what makes us happy. The question of happiness and what makes us happy is a complex and somewhat personal question. The Happy Movie was initiated by a director/producer in the United States – Tom Shadyac (who produced Patch Adams, the…

The Weight loss Journey
At the start of the year I made a commitment to myself. I was going to pull myself together and start exercising on a regular basis, and eating better. If you know me, I am the type of person who is more interested in catching up with a friend over coffee. I don’t drink coffee, but I love to sit and chat to my friends while they drink their coffees. I am happy to catch up with friends with either a hot chocolate or a glass of water. My group of friends are all changing our behaviour. We are still catching up for a coffee, but we are getting up…
