    A Mischievious Christmas

Christmas is a season that should be enjoyed, happy memories made, and mums should not be locked in the kitchen preparing the meal while everyone else is having fun. Sadly, the Christmas period can be a stressful time in the year for many mums and it really shouldn’t be. My favourite mantra is ‘Keep It Simple’, because its important to get back to what Christmas is all about. Its about connecting with the people in our lives that are special to us. To ‘keep life as simple’ as possible, you must get yourself and your family organised. Everyone (including extended family) needs to be on the same page. The goal…

    Women, Mothers and Metaphoric Hats

Do you ever feel as though you wear too many hats? I’m not talking about real hats at the moment, I’m talking about those metaphoric ones the majority of us mums – women can relate too.   A mother’s role is incredibly complex, yet incredibly rewarding. I often wonder how strange it is that something can be both really wonderful AND really hard all at the same time. There is a never ending list of tasks to do, and never enough hours in the day or days in the week to get everything done.   I think the most frustrating part of my role is that the majority of jobs are re-occurring!  One must…

    A Love Story!

On Monday, the 1st of December, hubby and I will be celebrating our 13th wedding anniversary! I can’t believe we have been married for 13 years! We have travelled a long way from our wedding day on the 1st December 2001, but in many ways, it still feels like we started our lives together just yesterday…..well maybe a couple of weeks ago. Thirteen years has gone so fast. Today, I thought I would share with you our love story. Its the Dion and Sarah Love Story – I’ll probably never be offered a million or two dollars to buy the movie rights so its safe to assume this is a safe…

    Celebrating Gratefulness

We don’t celebrate ‘Thanksgiving’ day here in Australia and I think we should.  The American’s formally celebrate Thanksgiving each year on the third Thursday in November, and have done so since 1941.   American’s may not have all the right answers to the big questions, but I do think they have a great idea in terms of their ‘Thanksgiving’ day. Imagine if we had a day off to celebrate gratefulness.  How great would that be?  (no pun intended) We have so many things in our lives to be thankful for, and the older I get – the more I understand how gratifying the simple pleasures really are.  A princess doesn’t need a…

Decluttering and Making Room for a Better Life.

This decluttering streak I am on is going well.  I have completely un-babied our home, and I have moved on to other areas of the house.  Its been going very well. Actually, I’ll correct myself here, it WAS going very well.  I started going through the book case and found Gretchin Rubin’s book ‘Happier at Home’ on the bookshelf, and lets just say that I got a teeny bit distracted. The issue here is that I have a thing for books.   I have always loved reading, and I have always found it difficult to pass on books.  I can only imagine how hard it would be for a fashionista to…

Mischieviousmum does the 100 day challenge!

Its day three and boy have the last two days been challenging! I am one of those people who lives her life by flying by the seat of my pants.  I tend to react to situations that arise rather than respond – something I really want to change.   I have written many times about my plans for world domination, well, my goal to simplify my life and make time to relax and read, but sometimes its very hard to climb out of any rut.     This is partly why I made the decision to start a 100 day challenge.   The other part was that I felt inspired by…

    Spring in my Step!

Spring is here at last (insert happy dance here). I don’t know about you, but for me winter felt as though it would never end. It was a very long three months this year. I don’t know if I can fully express to you my excitement for Spring. Over the last couple of weeks I caught a chest infection and tonsillitis, which took me out of the game of life for a couple of weeks, and believe me it has not been fun.  Kicking illness to the curb is like a Spring present, after all, there’s nothing worse than a sick mum.  Households don’t function well when mum is down for…

    Our home is our castle!

“A man’s home is his castle” Darryl Kerrigan says in the 1997 Australian film, ‘The Castle’, and I must admit I wholeheartedly agree. No matter what home improvement ideas we have, we all have this belief that home improvements are all about making our environment happier and nicer to live in. It’s all about the serenity, our safe place, our refuge, from the world in which we live in. Here we are screeching towards the end of January, and I must say that life in our household has been busy over the last couple of months. We have thoroughly enjoyed the summer/Christmas holidays, but I have also been getting my…
